Out of Town Walks
Harpenden
25 July and 11 September
On Sunday, July 25 at 2:30 pm the focus is on the historic original village centre and on Saturday, 11 September at 2:30 pm covers the fascinating features and buildings of West Common end of the town. Both walks begin outside Park Hall in Leyton Road.
Haunted Harpenden – 30 and 31 October
An atmospheric walk in search of spectres, spooks and suchlike supernatural beings!
If you’re not too scared, meet at the War Memorial on The Green, Saturday, 30 October and Halloween night and Sunday, 31 October. MUST be pre-booked – tickets available from 1 September from the Town Hall, Harpenden. For 14 December, no advance booking is required.
Redbourn
25 April and 26 September
Redbourn East on Sunday, 25 April centres on the High Street, once part of the Roman Road we call Watling Street, where the buildings all have a fascinating history.
Redbourn West features the buildings round the Common, St Mary’s Church and
the Almshouses, and the former railway known as the “Nicky Line” and is on
Sunday, 26 September. Both walks begin from the car park on the Common
(by the Cricket Pavilion) at 2:30 pm.
Wheathampstead
30 May. 27 June and 29 August
This is a traditional site of the Catuvellauni, the local Iron Age tribe, but it eventually became part of the monastic Estate of Westminster. Join us and learn more of this
ancient and extremely interesting place. A visit to St Helen’s Church is included.
Meet in the public car park at the rear of The Bull. The walks take place on
Sunday, 30 May, Sunday 27 June and Sunday, 29 August, both begin at 3:00 pm.
