St Albans Tour Guides – Green Badge Training Course 2025
St Albans Tour Guides Association is pleased to announce that we will be running a training programme for those interested in becoming a qualified tour guide within the City and District of St Albans. The training programme will start in October 2025, leading to a Green Badge qualification accredited by the Institute of Tourist Guiding (ITG). *
The training will be delivered each Saturday at Verulamium Museum, with the first session planned for Saturday 11th October 2025, through to 18th April 2026. The assessment walks will take place at some point after the end of the course. To qualify, trainees must pass:
- A written local knowledge examination
- A tour planning project, on a given theme
- Two practical assessments - a walking tour and an interior site
Trainees will be expected to undertake study in their own time and take part in practice walks to develop their guiding skills. Mentoring and support will be provided by qualified guides, who are members of the Association.
The cost of the course, including the ITG registration fee, will be £135, payable before the start of the course. There will be a further cost for the external examination fee, which will be £638.
Successful guides can expect to qualify during the summer of 2026, whereupon they will be expected to become members of the City and District of St Albans Tour Guides Association and undertake duties on the rota. All our guides are volunteers.
We will be holding two Information Meetings, on the mornings of Saturday 31st May and Saturday 14th June, at Verulamium Museum. To register your interest in attending one of these information sessions, please complete the proforma here
